Kelly Oubre Jr.

Through the first meeting with the Portland Trail Blazers, Kelly Oubre Jr. was averaging under ten points per game for the first time since his second season in the league.

Although he’ll undoubtedly hit that double-figure average, Oubre’s struggles have been obvious, and it’s odd, to say the least. He was brought in to be a player that could fill the void of the injured Klay Thompson.

He has not been that player so far this season. Oubre Jr. is shooting over 30 percent of his shots while wide open according to NBA.com. On said shots, he’s making 10 percent, hitting 2-of-20. That’s just not good enough.

He’s been praised for his effort and contributions aside from his shooting woes. His confidence is still high as well, but he needs to start hitting shots. He’s making over $14 million, and it cost almost four times that in luxury tax penalties for the Warriors.

The Warriors should deal Oubre Jr. as they likely won’t make the playoffs and, with Klay Thompson returning next season, have little chance to re-sign Oubre as he’s entering his prime. The Warriors would likely only deal him if their odds for the postseason were slim at the deadline.
