Golden State Warriors trades to land P.J. Tucker: Giving up Looney and Poole

Rockets receive: Jordan Poole, Kevon Looney

Warriors receive: P.J. Tucker

I think in most of these trades I may be undervaluing Tucker, but here’s a deal that I think makes sense. The Warriors get two chips that they can put on their second unit and let handle some responsibility.

This deal would work well for Jordan Poole, who has fallen out of the rotation in Golden State. Players like Damion Lee and Brad Wanamaker are getting the backup guard minutes. Poole hasn’t built on his late-season success from a season ago.

As for Looney, he’d be able to play behind Christian Wood and either alongside or instead of DeMarcus Cousins. Either way, Looney could be a good fit or flipped to a third, contending team. Both players aren’t critical to success for Golden State.

Tucker, who is shooting 52 percent from deep this season, could be. He’s a rebounding, three-point shooting power forward that can tag-team with Draymond Green to make an elite small-ball lineup. For Poole and Looney, it’d make sense.
