Golden State Warriors trades to land P.J. Tucker: Surrendering a first-round pick

Rockets receive: 2022 first-round pick

Warriors receive: P.J. Tucker

The Golden State Warriors will be a good team next season. They’ll be getting Klay Thompson back next season, and they’ll likely contend for a championship. That means the Warriors’ 2020 first-round pick will not be in the top 20.

Tucker isn’t playing the best ball of his career right now. While he’s shooting well from deep, he’s not taking quite as many attempts, and to be fair, it’s very early in the season to make any conclusions on if he can sustain his shooting.

As for his scoring, Tucker is averaging 5.6 points per game, his lowest average in over a decade. With the Rockets spreading the love and not just playing James Harden against the world, Tucker isn’t getting as many open threes.

The Warriors may not play that one-man game, but given how centric their offense is for two-time MVP Curry, it still frees up Tucker. He’s worthy of a first-round pick that may turn out to be a bust regardless.
