4 Golden State Warriors that’ll be on the block as the trade deadline nears
Kevon Looney
After an impressive 2019 postseason series against the Rockets, Kevon Looney proved to be everything the Warriors could desire in a rotational big man. He defended guards well and pounded the boards consistently.
Looney had a bright future and had been brought up in the Warriors’ organization, originally joining the franchise as the team’s first-round pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Looney, following that postseason, signed a 3-year, $15-million contract. H
e’s one of just a handful of players to be on a contract that’s valued above the player’s respective minimum salary.
For his value, Looney hasn’t produced well. While he’s played at a solid level lately, Looney is averaging just 3.9 points per game and has taken a backseat to James Wiseman. Wiseman is the organization’s first highly promising big man.
That could make Looney and his contract a liability, especially if Marquese Chriss can eventually make a return. For those two reasons, I could see Looney being dealt if he has a poor stretch of play over the next few weeks.
