Thon Maker

A 7-foot, 23-year-old from South Sudan, Thon Maker was a top-ten pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. Many thought he could be a Pascal Siakam-like player with more size and a nice touch around the rim. With a 7-foot-3 wingspan, Maker was destined to be a problem for defenses.

Sadly, things didn’t go as planned for Maker.

With the Bucks for his first two and a half seasons, Maker has a solid rookie year, averaging four points per game and shooting 46 percent from the field and 38 percent from deep. Both those numbers dipped in his second season as he struggled to stay in the rotation.

Maker was then traded to the Pistons. He didn’t last long there, spending just a season and a half in the Motor City. He then joined the Cavaliers for this season and was waived after playing in eight games.

A free agent now, Maker has the most important attribute — size. He hasn’t shown an elite touch around the rim, but Marquese Chriss hadn’t proven himself as a consistent starter before joining the Warriors either.

While it’s a long shot that Maker could bring the same value as Chriss, his size and shooting could be a reason why the Warriors at least look into signing him.
