Unlocking Kelly Oubre Jr.

While Stephen Curry is the key to having a productive team, the Warriors do have lineups that can thrive without him on the court, and it’s partially because Kelly Oubre Jr., in his own right, is a capable playmaker.

Oubre Jr. neared 20 points per game last season, and while he’s under 15 per game this season, that aggressive mentality and ability to get and finish at the rim is there. That said, unlocking Oubre Jr. is going to be a key for Golden State this season.

In a lineup alongside Wanamaker, Lee, Paschall and Jordan Poole, Oubre Jr. has found success. This lineup has played 24 minutes, and it’ll likely be put on hold for a while as Poole is currently with the Santa Cruz Warriors.

This lineup is elite on the defensive end. In the two quarters they’ve played, they have a positive net rating, and it’s really only due to their 90.2 defensive rating. With a 70.6 assist rate as well, this unit knows how to spread the love.

They need to be more efficient, but the five-man unit has shown the ability to thrive on the defensive end.
