Golden State Warriors’ reasons to sign Cousins – He’s still good

No one is pretending that DeMarcus Cousins is the double-double machine that tore the league up throughout the last decade. He’s dealt with debilitating injuries that have slowed him down and stolen some of his shine.

Yet, he’s still a good player. Cousins is averaging 9.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.4 rebounds in 20 minutes of playing time this season. His inconsistency is the biggest issue, but as we’ve seen in spurts, he can explode for a big game on any given night. For example, he scored 28 points and hauled in 17 rebounds against Dallas early in the season.

Obviously, Cousins has lost a step. He’s slow-footed on defense and isn’t going to burst to the rim anymore. This will hinder his ability to play heavy minutes but he can be effective as a role player. After all, he’s a steady scorer who can pass out of the post with ease.

The Warriors have space for him in the rotation. They can rely on his veteran experience to hit them with a jolt of energy from time to time. There are really no better options on the market at this time so it only makes sense the Warriors push to bring Boogie back to the Bay.
