Alen Smailagić

Another player the Golden State Warriors need to at least consider parting ways with is Alen Smailagić.

But, let’s be real — he’s probably one of the last players on the roster that they’d release in favor of a different big man. Smailagić was drafted by the team in the second round of the 2019 NBA Draft, and he’s hasn’t done much for the team since.

He played in 14 games last season and put up 4.2 points per game on 50 percent shooting. This season, he’s yet to see any action and has only played with the team’s G-League affiliate, averaging 10.3 points per game on 58 percent from the field.

Smailagić needs to be better. There’s going to have to come a time when the big man steps up and contributes at the sport’s highest level.

For now, he’ll continue to get a pass and stay on the roster, but the day that he contributes or gets released has to be getting closer and closer. Let’s hope that Smiley can return to being a solid, rim-running stretch four before then.

Verdict: Keep

While it’s likely all four are on the roster this time next season, it’s, at the same time, also very possible that within the next month one or more are dealt.
