Golden State Warriors’ highlights: Kelly Oubre Jr. scores 40 points

The beginning of Kelly Oubre’s time in Golden State could not have gone worse. Well, I guess it could have – but that doesn’t mean he was anything but a detriment on offense to start the season.

Early on, Oubre was a fish out of water. He played with tunnel vision and we can’t really blame him, as opponents were willing to leave him wide open and anyone with a reasonable amount of confidence would continue to fire away under those circumstances.

But, through the first few weeks, Oubre was hitting below 30 percent of his open attempts and things were getting ugly. Then, suddenly, one day he decided he just wasn’t going to miss anymore.

Oubre erupted for 40 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the 3-point line. He propelled the Warriors to a 31 point victory and this vaulted him into a streak of hot shooting from deep. Since then, Oubre has hit 36-of-81 attempts (44.4 percent), more accurate than Stephen Curry during the same stretch.

The rest of his game has improved as well. His decision-making is evolving from a mechanical two-step process to a fluid, reactionary snap that is helping him be in the right place at the right time. Hopefully, this is a sign of what’s to come.
