Wayne Ellington

While Wayne Ellington may also be a top buyout candidate as Blake Griffin just agreed on a buyout with the Pistons, the Warriors may want to go ahead and offer a second-round pick for the elite sharpshooter.

Ellington, a veteran originally playing his collegiate ball at North Carolina, is 33 years old. He’s not a long-term option at the team by any means, but with Klay Thompson coming back, that’s not what they need from him.

A former first-round pick, Ellington has been on fire this season. He’s averaging 2.8 threes per game which is nearing a career-high. Owed just over $2.5 million, he’d also fit under the disabled player exception.

The problem for Ellington is that, while he may partially fill a hole, he doesn’t make this team title contenders. He’s not the player that will come in and drastically improve the roster. He’s an elite shooter, and he could be just that.

Bringing in Ellington would improve the Warriors’ offense, but it wouldn’t make them a top-three team in the West.
