The Golden State Warriors may never be the same beasts that they were a few years ago.

They went on a never-before-seen stint of dominance over the league which included three titles and five straight trips to the NBA Finals. They also set a record with a 73-win season before adding former MVP Kevin Durant in the prime of his career the following season.

Their collection of talent was absurd.

However, this season, they’ll be lucky to make the playoff — although they won’t be an ideal first-round opponent for any team. With elite upside, this team still has potential despite Klay Thompson being sidelined.

The Warriors are only guaranteed Stephen Curry for one more season, but general manager Bob Myers isn’t worried that he’ll head to Los Angeles.

With their recent struggles and Klay Thompson’s injury list getting longer and longer, could Stephen Curry leave when his supermax contract expires? There’s certainly at least some possibility, although slim.

That said, one player trying to team up with Curry is a four-time MVP, a four-time champion, and 17-time All-Star LeBron James. James will spend the next few seasons in Los Angeles and has already brought a title to the Lakers in his first two seasons.

He picked Curry to be on his team as an All-Star captain, and that’s where it all may start for the duo.

"“I thought it was hilarious over All-Star Weekend — LeBron praising Steph up and down. LeBron obviously has begun the recruiting of Steph in the event he wouldn’t extend, and that somehow he would become a free agent,” ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said via NBC Sports’ Josh Schrock."

The Warriors superstar potentially headed to Los Angeles would be crushing for a franchise that has become so used to his presence and dominance.

While it still feels very unlikely given his place in the franchise and his ability to be content alongside Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, general manager Bob Myers did have an opinion on the comments regarding Curry taking off after his deal ends.

Myers took note of the recent flurry of comments regarding the potential recruiting of Stephen Curry. He talked to The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami on his “The TK Show” podcast (subscription required) to downplay what’s happening between the two stars.

Myers basically dives into how rumors will always occur with some of the league’s best players. After all, every team in the NBA would love to sign Curry if he’s available. That’s a big if though as Curry’s made the Bay Area his home for the past decade.

The Dubs have built something special over the past half a decade, and Curry has been the heart of it all. While Green and Thompson are the perfect teammates for Curry, the two-time MVP has been the catalyst for the Dubs’ success.

With Myers drowning out the rumors, for now, fans should too. It’s too early to get disappointed about Curry’s potential exodus.
