Golden State Warriors trade for Zach Lavine

How long have we been contemplating a hypothetical Golden State Warriors’ swap for Zach Lavine? It feels like ages. But, now more than ever, it is a real possibility.

The Chicago Bulls have been tirelessly trying to keep Lavine happy and they’ve done a respectable job, adding new pieces to the core that should have helped the Bulls crack the Play-In Tournament last season. Yet, Chicago is back in the lottery and Lavine is one year away from becoming an unrestricted free agent.

I don’t have to explain that Lavine’s looming free agency is a problem the Warriors would have to overcome if they elect to trade for him. However, the value of getting at least one year with another elite shot creator next to the Splash Brothers (and possibly years more) is enough to make this an interesting swap.

The Warriors again have to work a sign-and-trade with Kelly Oubre to complete this deal. But, if all goes well, the Dubs gain one of the NBA’s best offensive threats to pair in the backcourt with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. This extra jolt of scoring would bode well for a team that is already top-10 defensively.
