Overrated free agent the Warriors should pass on: Blake Griffin
The six-time All-Star Blake Griffin will likely re-sign with the Brooklyn Nets, but he’ll potentially be able to sign for a much bigger contract if he’d like.
Despite averaging a career-low 11.0 points per game, Griffin’s ability to tame Giannis Antetokounmpo may get him above a veteran’s minimum by itself.
Now, whether he wants the money after coming off a massive contract or not is up to him, but either way, the Warriors should stay away. Griffin is now 32, and he’s turned into more of a three-point threat than a playmaking forward.
Griffin shot more than half of his attempts from deep this past season, and he made just 34 percent of them. There are going to be better big men on the market that may be able to shoot a better rate.
While he still has the potential to be impactful, the Golden State Warriors should pass as their frontcourt will mainly consist of Kevon Looney, who picked up his player option, and center James Wiseman.
If they want to play small-ball lineups that can shoot, they can opt to include Mychal Mulder or another more lethal sharpshooter.
