Golden State Warriors could lose Kelly Oubre to Dallas Mavericks

The formula in Dallas has been simple ever since Luka Doncic was drafted in 2018. Find players who can play defense and shoot the 3-pointer. Again, this makes Kelly Oubre Jr. an ideal fit.

Doncic is surgical in his attack. The Mavericks generate an insane number of 3-pointers due to Doncic’s ability to create plays for others out of isolation and in pick-and-rolls. Tossing Oubre in the corner and allowing him to catch-and-shoot would be a good match for Doncic.

Furthermore, Oubre’s scrappiness on defense would be appreciated. It’s been difficult for the Mavericks to shoot their way out of defensive slumps and it won’t get any easier until they find players like Oubre who can defend multiple positions with ease.

However, Dallas struggles with shot creation, as well. We’ve seen how Doncic flames out in the playoffs when his teammates are unable to alleviate him of his on-ball duties. Oubre doesn’t resolve this problem as he’s an underwhelming creator off the dribble.

For this reason, Dallas could look elsewhere in the offseason. But, don’t count them out just yet. Oubre is a decent young pickup for a team looking to surround Doncic with new talent.
