Golden State Warriors can count on Andrew Wiggins

Some might think that a “breakout” season for Andrew Wiggins is never going to come. Others might say he had his breakout last year. But, I don’t think Wiggins has ever gotten the level of recognition that he is likely going to receive this season.

Wiggins didn’t get much credit outside of the Warriors’ stratosphere for his consistency in the 2020-21 NBA season.

This should all change once the Warriors are actually competing for a championship. It will be hard to ignore when Wiggins is still acting as one of the most valuable two-way assets on a top-seed in the Western Conference.

Wiggins was among the top perimeter defenders in the league last season in addition to averaging an efficient 18.6 points. He’s going to benefit from having been around the franchise for nearly two years and will likely look even better defensively next to Klay Thompson.

It’s likely Wiggins will see his personal numbers decline due to the return of Thompson and the emergence of other Dubs’ stars. However, I think this is the year Wiggins will clean his reputation and build a new name for himself as an incredible, albeit overpaid, role player.
