Golden State Warriors major need: A fill-in threat until Thompson returns

For this one, we can talk about a need not that Golden State needs to fill but more so that they simply need to figure out.

They have players that can fill in for Thompson, but it’s about choosing the right one. The Warriors have three players that can adequately fill the void. Damion Lee should be the one expected to step up and start with Thompson still sidelined.

The 28-year-old has taken up more of a mentorship role, but Lee is still a great player. He averaged 6.5 points per game last season even though Curry returned and took priority in the backcourt. He shot 39.7 percent from deep.

On top of Lee, Mychal Mulder and Poole are both options. Mulder can be a better shooter at times, and Poole is by far the best playmaker of the three. Poole should be more of a reserve, thriving off the bench. While Mulder makes sense, he’s relatively undersized.

Lee should be the player that fills in, but it’s certainly not guaranteed.
