Andrew Wiggins might derail the Golden State Warriors

Andrew Wiggins has been vocal in his decision not to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. The problem is, he will not be able to compete in home games this season for the Golden State Warriors if he does not change his mind.

The obvious and tangible consequence of Wiggins’ decision is him not being available for half of the season. However, how damaging will this be for team chemistry in the long run? Even if Wiggins gets vaccinated before the start of the season — has this already left a sour taste in everyone’s mouth?

As LeBron James told the media, his decision to get vaccinated came partially in devotion to his teammates. Not only did he conclude the vaccine was safe and effective — but that it would also grant him the best ability to stay on the floor and help the Los Angeles Lakers next season.

Some have already pointed out Wiggins’ lack of commitment to the team by denying the vaccine. What’s more, there have been tiny instances of backlash from his teammates such as Nemanja Bjelica telling Wiggins to “get the shot” during media day and Stephen Curry bluntly stating the situation is “not ideal.”

This incredibly avoidable roadblock will become a major issue for the team if Wiggins continues to go against the grain. It is bad enough if he won’t be available to play but the negative team chemistry impacts could be even worse.
