The rumors are once again heating up as both Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry give the Golden State Warriors enough indication that a potential reunion is still on the table.

We’ll start with concrete evidence.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN, who has been on a roll with rumors as of late, reported that Durant to Golden State is a “real discussion” that Curry himself has been open to.

This matches prior reporting that Curry has reached out to KD several times about the ongoing situation.

As for Durant? Chris Broussard says a source has texted him saying that Durant would prefer to play with Curry over Kyrie Irving next season.

Okay, where there is smoke there is fire, right?

Not always, I guess.

The rumors are heating up but it just does not make any sense for the Golden State Warriors to trade for Kevin Durant this summer.

While the idea of KD joining the Warriors for a second time is intriguing, it would be nearly impossible to make happen without gutting the roster of a team that just won a championship.

Trading for Durant is no easy task. The Nets would want a historic haul in return and they do not exactly have a reason to rush this process. KD is not threatening to sit out and he is on contract for four years.

As a result, the Dubs would have to spend everything they have to pry KD away from Brooklyn.

At this point, would that even be worth it?

In a different timeline, where Durant is younger and not coming off of back-to-back serious injuries — and the Warriors were not the defending champions — maybe a deal would make sense.

But in this universe? Why?

The Warriors have already recovered from losing KD the first time. They’ve seemingly done the unthinkable of rebuilding for the future while capitalizing on a championship run in the present.

Why would they blow up all of their hard work for something that might not even leave them in a better position than the one they are currently in?
