If it wasn't frustrating enough that the Golden State Warriors aren't apparently willing to try to maximize Stephen Curry's greatness, there has also been several recent incidents that have gone viral on social media in which former NBA players have slandered the franchise superstar.
Monta Ellis, a former Warriors shooting guard who was a solid player but was never an All-Star, and never received any sort of major accolades, made the bold claim recently that if he and Curry had been switched out during the championship era, it would have been the same result.
As if that wasn't egregious enough, another former NBA player, Jeff Teague, said that if Curry had been switched out with Damian Lillard on the championship teams, then the Warriors still probably would have won.
Why do people continue to disrespect Stephen Curr
Teague's clam is slightly more connected to reality as Lillard is a phenomenal point guard in his own right, but it's still blasphemous because he simply isn't as good as Curry. To suggest that the greatest shooter of all time could be easily swapped out with others is just patently ridiculous.
Now, maybe this is just intentional trolling to try to get people upset and outraged, but if they actually mean what they say, that sort of talk has to be shut down, and thankfully many people responded derisively to both claims on social media.
It makes one wonder why there is this repeated Curry disrespect? Maybe there is some bias against point guards or maybe people buy into the argument made by the likes of Charles Barkley that Curry has played in a "soft" era, and that if he'd played in a more physical era he would have gotten beaten up and broken down.
It's all just nonsense and shows that there are people who simply refuse to respect what Curry has achieved. Maybe it's because he has revolutionized the game and made the three-point shot so attractive that these players think anyone can be Curry if they take enough shots from beyond the arc. Whatever the reasoning, it simply has to stop because there might be some people out there foolish enough to believe it.
While many obviously do respect Curry and respect his greatness, it may take his retirement from the game for everyone to unanimously agree that he was truly a unique and special talent in NBA history. Warriors fans know it, but it bears repeating so long as people like Ellis and Teague keep spewing misinformation.
