2. Will Klay Thompson rumors persist?

For whatever reason, Klay Thompson continues to pop up in all sorts of rumors. Whether it’s the recent Paul George-for-Thompson swap the Warriors denied, or C.J. McCollum tweeting out about Thompson bouncing in free agency, rumors follow him more than any other player on this team.

Thompson isn’t a free agent until after the 2018-19 season. At that point there is a very real chance that he is going to have three or four NBA Championship rings. He’s going to get paid and the Warriors will be able to offer him more than any other team.

There’s two factors at play here and that is Thompson’s contract is going to push the Warriors luxury tax up into oblivion even more and whether or not he will want to be the guy. When it comes to the first, the Warriors appear committed to paying whatever it takes to keep this core together.

When it comes to the latter, Thompson’s personality certainly doesn’t strike anyone as him wanting to bolt and become the guy elsewhere. He has been a Warrior his entire career and staying with the team will only continue to add to his legacy by virtue of everything else he can continue to accomplish.

This is a storyline that will likely flare up every now and then, as he’s everyone’s favorite trade rumor candidate. However, it’s not one that people should really put much stock into right now either.
