Golden State Warriors: 5 things Dubs need to do to win Game 2
2. Kevon should guard The Brow
As great as Draymond Green looked against the Pelicans in Game 1, it was Kevon Looney who stole the show, doing an awesome job defensively against Anthony Davis.
As stated in my piece outlining a few takeaways from Game 1, Looney — not Draymond — was Golden State’s primary Brow defender, playing 37 possessions against Davis. In that time, not only did Looney not commit a single foul, but he limited Davis to a mere 2-of-9 shooting.
Looney finished a game-high +34, which was far above Draymond’s +28, KD’s +24 and Klay’s +22. He didn’t stuff the stat sheet like Green, nor did he get buckets like Durant or Thompson; rather Looney just focused on forcing Davis to settle for highly-contested attempts, leading to a dominant win for the Dubs.
Davis is likely to playing more pick-and-roll and be more aggressive with his positioning in Game 2, but if Loon can bring that same defensive intensity he had in Game 1, there’s no doubt the Warriors push their second round lead to 2-0 heading into Pelicans territory.
