Golden State Warriors select Troy Brown Jr. in 2018 FanSided Mock Draft
2018 FanSided Mock Draft Results
Keeping the aforementioned mock drafts in mind, it’s perfectly understandable why Brown wasn’t even on my original prospect watchlist: I didn’t think it at all possible for him to slip to 28.
My original plan was to take a sleeper like Donte DiVincenzo, who was widely considered a late-first rounder before a great showing at the 2018 NBA Draft Combine. If DiVincenzo was gone, I at least thought guys like Kevin Huerter, Josh Okogie, Aaron Holiday or Jalen Brunson would still be on the board.
The following is exactly how the draft went:
- DeAndre Ayton
- Luka Doncic
- Marvin Bagley III
- Trae Young
- Mohamed Bamba
- Jaren Jackson Jr.
- Michael Porter Jr.
- Wendell Carter Jr.
- Mikal Bridges
- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
- Miles Bridges
- Collin Sexton
- Robert Williams
- Lonnie Walker IV
- Donte DiVincenzo
- Aaron Holiday
- Elie Okobo
- Zhaire Smith
- Kevin Knox
- Keita Bates-Diop
- Kevin Huerter
- Chandler Hutchison
- Jacob Evans
- Khyri Thomas
- Jalen Brunson
- Josh Okogie
- Dzanan Musa
- Troy Brown Jr.
- Mitchell Robinson
- Anfernee Simons
DiVincenzo somehow found his way up at 15 despite being a weird fit for the Washington Wizards, while the Phoenix Suns understandably took Holiday.
I’ve seen Huerter go as early as 21 to the Utah Jazz in a number of mock drafts, but I questioned the Los Angeles Lakers taking Brunson at 25 when their backcourt is already pretty set.
The Philadelphia 76ers took Okogie, which was also pretty understandable, then I incorrectly anticipated guys like Okobo, Hutchison and Bates-Diop slipping down to 28. By the time we were on the clock, plans “A” through “H” were already spent, and plan “I” was actually Rawle Alkins out of Arizona.
Then I noticed Brown was still available, and I just knew he was the perfect pick.
