Golden State Warriors: Expect the Unexpected with Jordan Poole
By Adam Serpant
The future is bright
The fact still stands – Jordan Poole is a rookie. The expectance of inconsistency limits Poole’s overall contribution potential. There will be games that he plays poorly, and there will be games that he does not play at all.
Rookies on Steve Kerr’s teams do not play much as a general rule, but times are different, and the youth will be leaned upon to flesh out the rotation. The superstars are going to have to work hard to cover the inexperience, but Poole has the ability to provide some blistering performances throughout the excruciatingly long season.
Upon the completion of writing, Steve Kerr has just announced that it would be ‘unlikely’ for Klay Thompson to play this season, and so this will open up a larger opportunity for Poole to shine this year.
His presence on the offensive end will give opposition teams at least something to think about. Box-and-one defensive schemes won’t be prevalent this season, hopefully, but Poole has to flow with the natural peaks and troughs of an NBA rookie season and keep a high confidence in his game.
Poole is a shooter, and working with the greatest shooting backcourt of all time and being coached by the most accurate shooter ever will help him to consistently believe in his shot. The odd twenty-point game will be a glorious achievement for him, and under these existing circumstances, we may just see one or two from him this season.
Now that the NBA season has finally arrived, one thing is for sure: the Warriors won’t be boring. And neither will Jordan Poole.
