The supporting cast

The Warriors of today have many more who are showing the required heart and desire to fight for a place in next year’s side.

Two-way rookie guard Ky Bowman demonstrated his fearlessness against superior opposition with a very useful19-4-8 vs Portland – he also demonstrated it by squaring up to Hassan Whiteside after a needless shove after a made layup.

Bowman’s two-way counterpart Damion Lee has also stood up to the task. Determined not to be labeled as Steph’s brother-in-law, his relentless activity on the offensive end has been valuable in key moments. His decision making and his defensive abilities need improvement, but nobody will want it more than him on that court.

Then there are guys like Marquese Chriss. Labeled a bust after his time in Phoenix, and following a turbulent 2018-19 season, Chriss is hoping to follow in the footsteps of JaVale McGee to kickstart his career.

The Warriors have the powers of rejuvenation, it seems, and Chriss does have the talent. It rests on his shoulders to develop and evolve from a nice rookie to a grown professional. A similar story can unfold for Omari Spellman as well.

Unfortunately hampered by injuries at the time of writing, Jacob Evans and Kevon Looney also must demonstrate their individual growth. Looney has been a phenomenal player of value over the course of the last two seasons, and he must now develop offensively to become the finished article.

As for Evans, he was one of the encouraging signs from a dismal beginning to life at the Chase Center. His return will hopefully come speedily and without hiccups.
