Golden State Warriors that have impressed: James Wiseman

James Wiseman is easily the frontrunner for Rooke of the Year.

While others have played well, Wiseman has continued to be the team’s starting center and is becoming even more comfortable on the offensive side of the ball. Wiseman has averaged 11.6 points per game.

The problem with Wiseman’s offensive game so far this season is that he hasn’t been overly efficient. He’s shooting just over 40 percent. At 7-foot-1, Wiseman needs to be taking the bulk of his shots around the rim.

That said, what many weren’t prepared for is Wiseman showing off a competent outside shot. Through five games, he’s 5-for-10 from deep, shooting 50 percent from behind the arc, an odd combination for a rookie.

Along with his scoring, Wiseman has provided solid rim protecting. Averaging 1.6 blocks per game, Wiseman has given the Warriors something they haven’t had for a few seasons. He can improve as a rebounder, but overall, he’s been better than many were thinking he would be.
