The Aaron Gordon deal

The Dubs do not need a superstar to be Finals contenders this season, but what they may need is a player that is a more consistent contributor than shooting guard Kelly Oubre Jr.

Now, we did see two-time MVP Stephen Curry praise Oubre Jr. after his 40-point explosion against the Mavericks. Given how Curry talked about Oubre Jr.’s potential, there’s good reason to believe they still believe in the heights he can reach.

That was a career-high for him, but that doesn’t completely negate the several poor performances he’s had that have hurt the team this season. Oubre Jr.’s defense and energy are both massive positives, but Gordon may be able to put a more consistent product on the court.

When Steph is leading the team, they need players that can attack going at the rim. Gordon, despite not being a focal point of Orlando’s offense anymore, can do that.

The 6-foot-9 25-year-old is averaging 13.8 points per game, his lowest per-game average in the last four years. He should be a cheap option and, shooting 37 percent from deep, a more consistent one as well.
