Golden State Warriors: 5 Buyout candidates to pursue
By Tony Pesta
Golden State Warriors’ targets: Wayne Ellington
First on our list is an experienced veteran sharpshooter who can play a significant role on the Golden State Warriors bench. Wayne Ellington is as consistent as they come and has more to offer than wasting away on a rebuilding Detroit Pistons roster.
Ellington is averaging 10.6 points per game, the second-most of his career. On 45 percent shooting from the floor and 43 percent shooting from the 3-point line, Ellington is a trustworthy shooter from all spots on the court.
He isn’t much of a playmaker, dishing fewer than two assists a night. And, he isn’t a great defender either. Yet, his consistent shooting and 10+ years of playing experience under his belt make him a nice addition to just about any title-contending team.
Ellington would fill in on the Warriors bench as a backup guard to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. While he doesn’t solve their need for a playmaker in the second unit, he helps add a bit of shooting to an otherwise lacking supporting cast.
