Golden State Warriors can look to trade up in NBA Draft

I know the primary reason the Golden State Warriors would trade their upcoming picks is to go all-in on winning a title. However, let’s not overlook the possibility of this front office doing the exact opposite and playing the long game.

It wouldn’t be a total shock for Bob Myers to shift his attention towards keeping this team competitive for the next decade rather than dumping everything he has on the next few seasons. The big three are running out of time — but Myers might still have a long career ahead of him at 46.

Take his recent comments about the draft. The Warriors aren’t going to sacrifice winning for the sake of developing young players. While some have taken this as an indication the Dubs will be trading their picks for other assets — it could also mean Myers is more interested in trading for a home run prospect rather than taking a guy in the back end of the lottery.

This would make sense from the standpoint of the front office. There’s no use in backing themselves into a wall by trading all of their young assets in favor of winning a title now. At least, not if you plan on leading this franchise for the next decade.

Does this mean the Warriors could look to move up in the draft? Maybe. The idea of adding Jalen Suggs, Jalen Green or even Cade Cunningham is an exciting one. Nothing says ‘long-term’ success like finding Stephen Curry’s apprentice before it’s too late.

Although it feels less likely than the other trade avenues we will explore, let’s not rule this one out just yet.

Targets: Jalen Suggs, Jalen Green, Cade Cunningham
