Golden State Warriors: 3 Borderline untouchable trade assets
By Tony Pesta
Golden State Warriors don’t want to trade James Wiseman
Everyone is waiting to see what last year’s No. 2 overall pick will bring in his sophomore stint. One thing is for sure, it better be impressive.
James Wiseman had a lackluster rookie year, there is no denying that. In fairness, the high expectations he faced and lack of overall experience heading into the NBA made it nearly impossible for Wiseman to succeed now that we have the benefit of hindsight. Even entering his second season, Wiseman faces some difficult roadblocks to overcome in the shape of his meniscus injury.
But, excuses will only get you so far in this league. Wiseman has to be better this season and the Warriors seem to think he will be. The hype is building for an electric breakout performance from a prospect they viewed as better than LaMelo Ball before the draft.
Wiseman is still capable of being the power player he was projected to be. A mobile seven-footer with keen shot-blocking skills and the strength to finish over defenders makes Wiseman a valuable prospect. His potential to space the floor one day is only the icing on top.
According to Marcus Thompson, the Dubs are clinging tight to Wiseman. However, the consensus around him is sure to change by the February deadline. Either they’ll be even higher on him — or start to realize maybe this was a mistake. Regardless, Wiseman is safe from trades for now.
