Warriors player primed to make headlines: Kevon Looney

Kevon Looney is a name to keep an eye on. Sure, he’ll be a target for Golden State, but I doubt they overpay to keep him in the Bay Area. Teams like Sacramento, who is now led by Mike Brown and has the 11th-most cap space, could offer him an unbeatable offer.

Looney was extremely important in almost every close-out game in the postseason. His ability to dominate the glass and also switch onto guards and hold his own was key in several games. Looney had 22 rebounds against the Grizzlies in Game 6.

Following the 2019 postseason, Looney was awarded one of the lone contracts that was above the veteran’s minimum. He was given a 3-year, $15 million deal.

The Warriors should be ecstatic if that’s again something he’d consider, but considering what Brown could offer him and how the head coach knows the value of Looney, the market could give the Dubs’ former first-round pick more than they could.

His previous injury history could also deter teams. That said, there is going to be some important news coming from Looney’s decision on where he’ll spend next season.
