Golden State Warriors trade targets: Wayne Ellington

The Golden State Warriors don’t have much depth at the guard position with Klay Thompson injured and inexperienced players like Brad Wanamaker and Jordan Poole trying to fill in. Although Wayne Ellington has only been in 11 playoff games, the 12-year journeyman has much to offer.

Offensively, Ellington is adequate at scoring in a number of ways. He can score off the dribble, drive to the hoop and knockdown catch-and-shoot 3-pointers. This versatility makes him an ideal member of the Dubs bench as a competent scorer who can demand a bit of defensive attention.

Ellington is averaging 8.0 points on near 50 percent shooting from the floor and above 40 percent shooting from the 3-point line in just 17.6 minutes per game.

The benefit of adding another scorer to this roster can’t go understated. The Dubs are being rocked by box-and-one defense each night and there seems to be no answer when Stephen Curry goes cold from the field.

While the Dubs have seen glimmers of hope from Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre, it would be for the best if they can find a way to add another scorer like Ellington into the mix. I’m sure it wouldn’t take too much to pull him away from Detroit, so the Warriors should be all-in on negotiating a deal.
