Also known as the “Splash Brothers,” Curry and Thompson are a young, formidable duo, lethal beyond the arc. They also believe the Warriors have the potential to win a championship.
“We have a pretty legit window to be a championship-caliber team and make those strides,” Curry told the Charlotte Observer on Monday.
Thompson was a little more bold and direct:
Championship. That’s right. Yep.
That was his response to a question thrown at him by HoopJab.com about the Warriors’ expectations next season (h/t San Jose Mercury News). To expect a championship next season for the Warriors may be a stretch. Teams such as San Antonio, Oklahoma City, and the Los Angeles Clippers aren’t going anywhere, and others like Houston and Portland are also legitimate contenders.
There’s no saying where the Warriors end up if they make some moves this offseason. They have been mentioned in trade rumors for Kevin Love, in which they ironically almost have to include Thompson in any potential deal for Love.
But to actually to win the championship is going to be a challenge, Kevin Love trade or not. For now, Curry’s “legit window” statement is more realistic.
