Through out the NBA Playoffs, you’ve seen many coaches wearing pins with the initials of “CD,” in honor of their friend, collegaue, coach and mentor, Chuck Daly. At the age of 78, Daly lost his battle to pancreatic cancer and passed away, May 9, 2009.
Daly is most remembered as a great coach who was able to band a group of hard-nose basketball players and turn the Detroit Pistons into a basketball powerhouse. His team won back to back championships and made the playoffs every year he was their coach. He was also the coach of the “Dream Team” that swept competition and won the gold medal Daly was also inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame on May 9, 1994.
This year’s playoffs were dedicated to a great coach, but even more so a great man. Daly changed the way coaches coached and was widely respected by those who played for him and those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Terry, his daughter, Cydney and 2 grandchildren.
