Golden State Warriors: Andrew Bogut Health Update

Andrew Bogut, the oft-injured Australian center, has relayed some news to the Associated Press that is sure to make all Golden State Warriors’ fans rejoice. The 7’0” center said he is “100 percent” healthy, a claim he has likely not be able to make in years. Bogut has suffered various injuries ever since entering the league as the first overall pick in 2005. He also said that he has been playing full force in practices and expects to play ” a lot of minutes” this season.

This confidence is great news for Warriors’ fans. Bogut is a force to be reckoned with when healthy and his interior defense is second to none. He will likely also be motivated in part by the fact that the Warriors’ management was so actively pursuing Dwight Howard. Take that combination of frustration with years of injury and anger with the Dwight Howard offseason drama and you have a player who is extremely driven to have his best season.

That Bogut, the angry, driven and healthy, was seen in flashes during last year’s postseason. His crowning performance was in Game 6 against the Denver Nuggets. His 14 points, 21 rebounds on 7 of 10 shooting was essential in sending the Nuggets home. Although his health deteriorated in the last weeks of the season, Bogut still tried valiantly against the Spurs, thought it was clear he could not contribute how he wanted to.

Bogut’ good health means good fortunes for Warriors’ fans. At the end of the day, Bogut is a great defensive anchor with above-average passing skills and a great touch at the rim and will be a great contributor when healthy.
