With the hiring of Steve Kerr as Golden State Warriors’ head coach, a new group of assistant coaches will also be coming to the Bay Area.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, two names being considered are Andy Greer and Nick Nurse. Greer is an assistant with the Bulls, and Nurse is an assistant with the Raptors.
Although they may not be household names, Greer and Nurse are more than capable assistants with better background than Mark Jackson’s assistants.
Last season was Greer’s first with the Bulls, but he previously has held three assistant coaching positions in the league. He spent two seasons with the Knicks, four with the Rockets under Jeff Van Gundy, and two with the Grizzlies. Before joining the Bulls, he was a “scout for the Portland Trail Blazers primarily responsible for evaluating talent for trades and free agency,” according to his NBA.com bio.
Nurse was a storied head coach in the D-League before joining the Raptors’ coaching staff last season. He has won the NBA D-League championship twice (2011, 2013), and spent 11 seasons coaching in the British Basketball League, winning nine championships.
Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports claims that Warriors owner Joe Lacob wants to hire the “best available” assistants to join Kerr’s coaching staff, and if they can land both Greer and Nurse, that would be a great start.
