Word has come out of the Las Vegas area, that union President Derek Fisher is asking the players to remain as one. He stated in an email, confirmed to ESPN’s Chris Broussard, that it is the owners who are making this lockout longer than usual with disagreements between the owners themselves. Owners are meeting in Dallas by themselves this Thursday hoping to iron out the kinks and get back to the table with all owners agreeing on a new CBA.
In the meantime, Fisher sent out an email to all players that it is in their best interest to stay together and be as one. And to those agents who talk about decertifying should reconsider. Players have been forewarned that half the season maybe lost. To dissuade negative views, Fisher hopes that NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith’s story about how the NFL players survived and stayed as one as they fought for a new CBA will inspire the NBA players to do the same and have faith and hope the season can be saved.
After Thursday owners’ meeting, let’s hope for some positive steps in achieving a new CBA before time runs out.
