Look out West! Here comes the REAL Warriors! For the first time, the franchise has a nice three game winning streak. And they were all against decent teams. Denver, Houston and now Phoenix have been all the unlucky victims of the Warriors mental toughness. After losing back to back tough games to Sacramento and Oklahoma, the Warriors have been led by three different players and it’s no surprise who the three are. Stephen Curry led this three game win streak against Denver, while Monta Ellis elevated his game (again) against Houston and now, David Lee made quite a showing against Phoenix.
After a modest game against Houston, Lee came storming back with 28 points and 12 boards, to record another double double. And while Lee led the scoring, the other players complemented him with a pretty balanced attack. Ellis finished with 18 points and seven boards. Curry had nine points, seven boards and five assists. Andris Beidrins and Dorell Wright combined for nine points and six boards between them two.
And the bench was ridiculous! All season long, the bench has been one of the few bright spots. While it was great to see that most of the people who were coming off the bench were contributing, it was an even better sight to look at the box score and see almost all the bench contribute to some aspect of the game. Nate Robinson poured in 11 while rookie Klay Thompson had 10 points. Ekpe Udoh only had nine points and three blocks, but one of his block was a key moment in the game and it led to his own layup down the other end to extend the Warriors led by five with about 35 seconds to go. The Warriors capped off a 12 point deficit with a six point win.
Winning has finally caught up in the Bay Area and the Warriors are three games from being .500 again. After a home game against Portland, the Warriors will hit the road and play the next eight out of nine games away from the Oracle. This is just what they needed.
