As it stands, the team that appears poised to land Love is the Cavaliers, who just acquired LeBron James and are now clamoring to pair him up with another top-1o player in Love. Just to show their confidence, Cleveland traded for three non-guaranteed contracts with the Utah Jazz to clear up cap space in a potential deal for Love.
The difference between the Cavs’ and Warriors’ offers is that Cleveland seems willing to part with Andrew Wiggins, while Golden State does not want to give up Thompson. The Cavaliers are also well aware that James would like to play with Love, and it’s safe to say that they will acquiesce to whatever the “King” wishes.
No recent reports have indicated that the Warriors’ stance has changed regarding Thompson, and Steve Kerr has publicly stated his desire to coach Klay. Thus, it may even seem possible that the Warriors are out of the Love talks, considering that other teams are jumping in. But this could be altered anytime, any day; if Bob Myers and his cohorts suddenly have a change of heart and put Thompson on the table, things will surely get interesting.
